Here's our mental self-care prompt today...

Write a letter to Your Younger Self

If you’ve ever sat down to write a letter when you’re mad or upset, you know the experience can be cathartic. It’s the same when you address the letter to yourself — your younger self.

Don’t let the past control your present. If you hold onto things that upset you, even if it's something you’ve done to yourself it can create a cloud of negativity that follows you.

Instead, face the past head-on with a letter to your younger self.

You may not even know what you want from the letter, and that’s okay, too. Just write!

You may want to confront past mistakes, write about anything that still bothers you, what you wish you had done, and where you ended up in life.

This letter may bring you a sense of clarity and compassion for yourself like never before.

Be honest...

Here's our mental self-care prompt today...

Mirror Work

The most powerful affirmations are those you say out loud when you are in front of your mirror.

The mirror reflects back to you the feelings you have about yourself. It makes you immediately aware of where you are resisting and where you are open and flowing. It clearly shows you what thoughts you will need to change if you want to have a joyous, fulfilling life.

As you learn to do mirror work, you will become much more aware of the words you say and the things you do. You will learn to take care of yourself on a deeper level than you have done before.

Doing mirror work is one of the most loving gifts you can give yourself. It takes only a second to say, "You've got this" “Looking good” or "I'm so proud of you!" It’s so important to give yourself little positive messages throughout the day.

The more...

Joy List

Create Your Joy List

We all want our lives to be defined by as much light, love, laughter, and joy as possible.

The more of that we have the more resilience we have to weather the inevitable things that do not go as planned and wild curveballs life throws at us.

The thing is, when we are head down, bum up, absorbed in busy-ness, and getting things done, actively seeing joy can be something we defer to later. Let’s take a moment today to stop and look around at what brings us joy because what you focus your attention on grows!

List 3 places that make you happy.

List 3 people who bring you joy and uplift me when you spend time with them.

List 3 times you laughed out loud in the last week.

List 3 activities that light me up.

Beautiful Mind - Day 4: Rose Meditation

beautiful mind Jun 24, 2020

Welcome to Day 4 of Beautiful Mind!

To access the free printable 21 Day guide please opt-in here.

Here's our mental self-care prompt today...

Rose meditation

All that you need to perform this exercise is a fresh rose and a silent place.

Start to stare at the center of the rose, its heart.

Keep staring at the rose. Notice its color, texture, and design. Savor its fragrance and think only about this wonderful object in front of you.

At first, other thoughts will start entering your mind, distracting you from the heart of the rose. This is the mark of an untrained mind. But you need not worry, improvement will come quickly.

Simply return your attention to the object of your focus. Soon your mind will grow strong and disciplined.

If you don't have a rose available you can use another flower or even your morning cup of coffee or tea.

When you repeat this daily at the same exact time, most preferably in the morning, time the process and increase the meditation time as your mind...

The Five Senses Exercise

Calm your mind by using your five senses to focus on your environment instead of your thoughts.

First, notice 5 things that you can see. Look around you and become aware of your environment. Try to pick out something that you don’t usually notice.

Second, notice 4 things you can feel. Bring attention to the things that you’re currently feeling, such as the texture of your clothing or the smooth surface of the table you’re resting your hands on.

Third, notice 3 things that you can hear. Listen for and notice things in the background that you don’t normally notice. It could be the birds chirping outside or an appliance humming in the next room.

Fourth, notice 2 things you can smell. Bring attention to scents that you usually filter out, either pleasant or unpleasant. Catch a whiff of...

Wrap your arms around yourself

Bring your knees into your chest and give yourself a nice squeeze.
Hold it for ten seconds.

This is an invitation to hug your own body and promise to begin the practice of showing up every single day to love yourself better.

A simple, easy pose that can now be added to your daily self-care practice.

Hug yourself every morning and whenever you just need some love.

And here’s the thing, it turns out hugging ourselves and others is an action with tremendous impact. Research indicates that hugs are a powerful combatant against stress and anxiety, disease, depression, loneliness, and disease in general.

This makes hugs an amazing thing to share with ourselves and the people we care about.
