Compassionate Buddha

Compassionate Buddha - Om Mani Padme Hum

The most famous chant in the world is the Compassionate Buddha "Om Mani Padme Hum" which translates to "Hail to the jewel in the lotus."

It is the mantra of the Buddha of Compassion, known by the Chinese as Goddess Kuan Yin.

The mantra calms fears, soothes concerns, and heals broken hearts.

Read these words, say these words, and try chanting these beautiful words.

If you are uncomfortable with the spiritual reference you can recite a prayer, scripture, or mantra from your belief system that calls in compassion towards yourself and towards others.

Beautiful Mind - Day 17: Fake it

Here's our mental self-care prompt today...

Fake it

Your mood is elevated and your stress is reduced if you plaster a big smile on your face, even for a short period of time.

(Frowns have been shown to have the opposite effect.)

The smile doesn't have to be based on real emotion - faking it works.

Try it now, a full, true smile that involves your eyes as well as your mouth. That's almost certainly a more potent mood changer.

And here's a healthy contagion...

If you do it in public, those around you will be lifted as well. Our brains are wired for sociability. In particular, if one person observes another person smile, mirror neurons in that person's brain will light up as if he were smiling herself.

So, smile in private to boost YOUR mood... and why not extend that benefit to those around you by smiling in public?

Beautiful Mind - Day 16: The Five Second Rule

Here's our mental self-care prompt today...

The Five-Second Rule

The Rule is a simple, research-backed metacognition tool that creates immediate and lasting behavior change.

Metacognition, by the way, is just a fancy word for any technique that allows you to beat your brain in order to accomplish your greater goals.

Using the Rule is simple. Whenever you feel the instinct fire up to act on a goal or a commitment—or the moment you feel yourself hesitate on doing something and you know you should do—use the Rule.

Start by counting backward to yourself: 5- 4- 3- 2- 1. The counting will help you focus on the goal or commitment and distract you from the worries, thoughts, and fears in your mind.

As soon as you reach “1,” move.

That’s it.

Forest Bathing

Forest bathing is the practice of immersing yourself in nature in a mindful way and using your senses to derive a whole range of benefits for your physical, mental, and emotional health.

It is also known as Shinrin-yoku. ‘Shinrin’ means forest and ‘Yoku’ stands for bathing. The idea took birth in Japan in the 1980s and proved to be a very effective tool to overcome the ill effects of a hectic life and stressful work environment.

Connecting with nature allows the stressed portions of your brain to relax.

Positive hormones are released in the body. You feel less sad, angry, and anxious. It helps to avoid stress and burnout, and aids in fighting depression and anxiety. Being in nature is known to boost immunity and leads to lesser days of illness as well as faster recovery from injury or...

Here's our mental self-care prompt today...

Earthing

Connect to the Earth’s natural energy, by walking barefoot on grass, sand or dirt can diminish chronic pain, fatigue, and other ailments that plague so many people today.

This connection is referred to as Earthing or Grounding.

When your bare feet or skin comes in contact with the earth, free electrons are taken up into the body. These electrons could be referred to as nature’s biggest antioxidants and help neutralize damaging excess free radicals that can lead to inflammation and disease in the body.

The Earth is a conductor or free electrons and so are all living things on the planet, including us. The body is composed mostly of water and minerals which in combination are excellent conductors of electrons from the Earth providing there is direct skin contact or some other conductive channel for them to flow...

Beautiful Mind - Day 13: Goal Setting - Be. Do. Have.

Uncategorized Jul 03, 2020

Welcome to Day 13 of Beautiful Mind!

To access the FREE Printable 21 Day guide please opt-in here.

Here's our mental self-care prompt today...

Goal Setting - Be. Do. Have.

Create your Be / Do / Have a list

This is a list of things you want to be or do or have. Let me give you an example.

For each heading, you create 10 things. So for “BE”, you might have:

• Be a better listener
• Be a great friend
• Be a better wife

You can do the same for “do” and “have”.

The “do” list would be things like:-

• Run a marathon
• See the pyramids
• etc

And “have” are things you want to have.

It is a really easy way to make a plan and work out what you really want in life.

This may seem like a very basic thing but it is incredibly powerful. The act of writing down 10 in each list means you get very specific about what you REALLY want to do in life.
